LICH – Not only the budget of the city of Lich for 2021 has a deficit. There is also a gap in the municipal utility’s business plan. Mayor Dr. Julien Neubert (SPD) in the main and finance committee.
The deficit is 430 382 euros. While a surplus of 72,529 euros can be ascertained in the wastewater sector, a deficit of 502,911 euros is expected in the water sector. According to Neubert, the total amount of the loans is just under 5.9 million euros, with just under 1.8 million euros earmarked for water supply and just under 4.1 million euros for wastewater disposal.
As in the budget, the deficit can be compensated for by using reserves. “We have to be aware that these are not infinite,” added the mayor. In the case of water supply, the deficit can be traced back to the fact that in the second year the establishment of house connections is no longer shown in the financial budget, but in the earnings budget. In the case of house connections, this service can usually not always be billed in the same budget year, which is why there can be a shortfall in the result plan.
By far the largest part of the investments in the municipal utility’s business plan relates to the exchange of sewers and lines as well as renovation measures in the course of fundamental renovations of roads. “In addition, we are investing particularly in the construction of new pipelines, with 160,000 euros in our elevated tanks and 70,000 euros in the renovation of the sewage treatment plant in Lich”, explained Neubert, who pointed out that one or the other measure is not always implemented in the corresponding year can. Various reasons such as the unpredictable duration of calculations or the postponement of measures from the city budget that are directly related to the water and wastewater sector play a role here.
Finally, Neubert added that it is essential to look at the fee calculation next year. “After a corresponding basis had already been worked out in 2019, the task now is to update the review of the business plan for facts relating to charges and to finally record sealed areas and our facilities.”
