Libya: UN shocked over mass graves in the war-torn country

UN Secretary-General, António Guterres, has been shocked by the discovery of several mass graves in the civil war country Libya shown. There is a need for an accurate and transparent investigation, it said in a communication, the spread, the UN support mission for Libya (UNSMIL). In the past few days, there had been reports the discovery of eight mass graves. The majority was according to the United Nations in the city of Tarhuna.

Only a week ago, government forces were in the 60 or so kilometres from the capital, Tripoli, the town advanced. Tarhuna served the rebel General Khalifa Haftar as a key support in its Offensive against the internationally-recognized government. Haftar had launched more than a year ago a military campaign against the government of Prime Minister Fajis al-Sarradsch. The last was succeeded in the government units with the support of Turkey, however, the units Haftars to push back.

Meanwhile, Russia’s Foreign and defence Ministers, Sergei Lavrov and Sergei Shoigu, is expected on Sunday for talks on the Libya conflict in Turkey. The Meeting had been agreed by Kremlin chief Vladimir Putin and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said the Turkish foreign Ministry on Saturday.
