In Poland, outgoing President Andrzej Duda was put on the ballot in the first round of the presidential election by liberal candidate Rafał Trzaskowski. Enough to say to supporters of the latter that the second round will have the air of a referendum: for or against Duda.
The presidential election in Poland mobilized like never in the recent history of the country, whereas it had been postponed because of the health crisis: nearly 64% of turnout. The conservative outgoing president, Andrzej Duda, came first on Sunday June 28 with 41.8% of the vote, but there will be a second round on July 12. Duda is tossed around by liberal candidate Rafał Trzaskowski with 30.4% of the vote.
During the election night on Sunday, his supporters chanted his first name: Rafał. He promises them a democratic and smiling Poland, like him. The centrist mayor of Warsaw, a liberal tinged with ecology, is also pro-European, like Raczkiewicz, a young man in the crowd who waves the starry blue flag. “Emotions are unbelievable. The slogan of our campaign was: enough is enough!”
A formula used by Sophie to express her fed up with President Andrzej Duda. “I have had enough of what he has done for the past five years, he is ruining our constitution, I have had enough”she said again.
I want things to change in Poland.
Even more than this first round, the second will clearly be a referendum: for or against Duda. Even with good reporting, Rafal Trzaskowski knows it will be very tight. Time is short, he has only 15 days to amplify the front against the current president Andrzej Duda.
