Libas Leicester, Liverpool Getting Closer to Chelsea’s Record in the English League: Football

LIVERPOOL Liverpool carved a slick record in the 9th week of the Premier League 2020-2021. The Reds – nicknamed Liverpool – beat Leicester City 3-0 at Anfield Stadium, Monday (23/11/2020), early morning WIB.

Liverpool’s winning goals were scored by the own actions of Jonny Evans (21 ‘), Diogo Jota (14’) and Roberto Firmino (86 ‘). The victory made Liverpool move up to second place in the standings with a collection of 20 points equal to Tottenham Hotspur in first place.

In addition, Liverpool also broke club records because of the victory. Liverpool are now unbeaten in 64 Premier League home games, one more than their previous club record.

Liverpool have never tasted defeat since losing to Crystal Palace with a score of 1-2 on April 23, 2017. After that, no team has been able to bring home three points from Anfield Stadium. According to Opta Joe, Liverpool have won 53 wins and 11 draws since losing to Palace.

Liverpool are now in second place in the list of teams with the most unbeaten streak in Premier League home matches. First place on the list is occupied by Chelsea who have not lost in 86 home games.

Chelsea made that record in 2004 to 2008. Chelsea’s record was stopped in their 87th match when they lost to Liverpool with a score of 0-1. Xabi Alonso’s single goal ended Chelsea’s slick record.

Liverpool’s journey to equal or even break Chelsea’s record is still a long way off. Liverpool have to go through 22 Premier League home games unbeaten to just match Chelsea’s record.

Liverpool has the capacity to do that. However, Liverpool’s situation this season is somewhat different because of the hurricane of injuries. After Fabinho and Andy Robertson recovered, Liverpool lost the injured Naby Keita in the match against Leicester.

As a result, Liverpool are currently missing eight players due to injury. Apart from Keita, Liverpool first lost Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Thiago Alcantara, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Xherdan Shaqiri.

Previously, Mohamed Salah was also included in the list after testing positive for Covid-19. However, Salah’s last PCR test stated that he was negative for Covid-19 so he could return to training with his teammates.

If you look at Liverpool’s current condition, the Reds are better focused from match to match. After carving out neat results in every match, Liverpool can only see how close they are to Chelsea’s record.
