AARHUS – The Indonesian badminton team successfully beat Denmark in the semifinals Thomas Cup 2020 with a score of 3-1. This result brought Indonesia to advance to the final round for the 20th time in the Thomas Cup.

As is known, Indonesia achieved a sweet result against Denmark at Ceres Arena, Aarush, Denmark, Saturday, October 17, 2021. Three points for Indonesia were presented by Marcus Fernaldi Gideon/Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo, Jonatan Christie, and Fajar Alfian/Muhammad Rian Ardianto. This result brought Indonesia back into the 2020 Thomas Cup final.

Since it was first held in 1949 until 1982, the Thomas Cup event is known to take place every three years. During that period, Indonesia wrote an extraordinary history by reaching the final nine times and collecting seven titles.

After 1982, the Thomas Cup was held every two years. However, this did not affect the performance of the Red-White Team, which could advance to the top party six times until 2000 with a collection of four titles.

However, entering the period from 2000 to 2016, Indonesia’s appearance in the Thomas Cup began to decline. They have only been able to reach the final three times, namely in 2002, 2010, and 2016 and only won one title in 2002 after overthrowing the neighboring country, the nickname of Malaysia.

Of the 19 opportunities to compete in the Thomas Cup final, Indonesia managed to secure 13 titles and was runner-up six times. The result made them the most successful team in the men’s team tournament, followed by China who is second with a collection of 10 titles.
