LG unveils very thin and light speakers for installation in cars – Informatics – News

LG has announced a new type of flat speaker. The company envisions applications in automobiles, where space is at a premium. When it comes to the sound quality of the speakers, the South Korean company says there are “no compromises”.

LG calls the speakers which shows it in his postfrom Slim actuator sound solution. They are 15cm by 9cm and 2.5mm thick. The weight is 40 grams, which according to the company is “30 percent of the weight and 10 percent of the thickness” of a conventional car speaker. LG expects the speakers to be hidden in the dashboard, but also in the headlining, headrests and roof pillars. Also, no grates would be needed with this design.

Speakers would not use the traditional parts such as voice coil, cone and magnet. Instead, just from LG film excitertechnology are used. The company says it partnered with a “globally active audio company” during development.

It’s not the first time that LG has made this technology available. The LG G8 ThinQ smartphone it had an oled panel that vibrated and thus acted as a loudspeaker for the device. Also Sony’s A90J OLED TV use this technique. Sony buys its OLED panels from LG Display.

LG says it plans to bring the speakers to market in the first half of 2023 and will reveal more information about them during CES 2023, which runs from January 5-8.
