The Three Seas Initiative is a geopolitically and economically important instrument, said President Egils Levits during a meeting with Bulgarian President Rumen Radev on Thursday.
The President’s Office announced that Bulgaria was hosting the Three Seas Initiative Summit this year, and the two Presidents discussed the initiative’s growing role in the region and in Europe.
The President expressed satisfaction with the good bilateral relations between the two countries, as well as within the framework of the European Union (EU) and NATO. The Office of the President added that 2022 will mark the 100th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
The President thanked Bulgaria for its work in organizing the Summit of the Three Seas Initiative. “The Three Seas Initiative is a geopolitically and economically important instrument that will improve connections between the 12 EU Member States in the Baltic, Adriatic and Black Sea regions. The support of the initiative’s strategic partners – US, European Commission and Germany – implementation of projects, “Levits stressed.
Radev agreed with the President and acknowledged that, in the long run, the Three Seas Initiative should strengthen cooperation between science and education member states alongside the implementation of infrastructure projects. The two Presidents agreed on the need to continue to attract the Three Seas Initiatives to the Investment Fund, not only from Member States but also from international financial institutions and private capital.
The situation in Ukraine and Belarus, as well as Bulgaria’s position on the future enlargement of the European Union were also discussed.
