Florin Cîțu, the PNL president, harshly criticized Minister Adrian Câciu after the stuttering with the reduction of excise duties on fuels. “Let him come and tell the Romanians if he lied to them, why he lied to them,” Citu said on Wednesday.
His reaction came after the press, including G4Media, wrote that the Ciuca government had given up, at least for the time being, the idea of halving excise duties on fuel. Excise duties represent about 40% of the pump price of diesel and gasoline, and Minister Câciu had stated that halving the excise duties would lead to a decrease of 1.2 lei in the pump price.
However, the Ciuca Government abandoned the idea because the minimum level of excise duty is set by a European directive, and its halving could lead to the initiation of an infringement procedure, as Economedia wrote here.
