Les Coqs Rouges, 130 years of sport in Bordeaux

Historical association of downtown Bordeaux, created in 1891, the Coqs Rouges is an important vector of social link by setting up many sporting and cultural activities.

More than 2000 members, 35 sporting, cultural, leisure and entertainment activities or even 100 volunteers: the Coqs Rouges remain a pillar of sport in Bordeaux, even 130 after their creation. “Our association offers a wide range of sporting, cultural and artistic activities, for young and old, in competition or leisure. We have solid infrastructures: several sports facilities at the head office, 14 Place Sainte-Eulalie, but also a large estate in Gradignan, which revolves around the Château Moulerens ”, explains director Patrick Cazenave. In total, about twenty disciplines are represented, sometimes original like dodgeball, kin-ball or beach tennis. “In recent years, the Roosters have sought to diversify their activities. Thus, there is now something for all tastes and ages. At Les Coqs Rouges, you can practice a team sport, snowshoeing, water sports, or even a martial art. The Body Expression Pole has grown, we now have a wide choice of dance and well-being activities. The Roosters are also very active in the animation of the youth of the district, by intervening in the schools, and by proposing stays and sports courses during the school holidays. “

Multisports is one of the pillars of the Coqs Rouges, which also has a section of the Multisports School. The latter offers children aged 6-11 a full program of very varied activities in order to discover several disciplines. Ball games, racket games, body expression, through gymnastic discovery, opposition games as well as martial arts. The Covid-19 crisis has logically shaken the association and its operation for more than a year, but the optimist remains among the volunteers. “If we must retain the positive, this crisis reminds us that we must take care of each other and also requires us to be more benevolent”, assures Patrick Cazenave. “Despite this unprecedented situation, our beautiful association continues its work as best it can. We will emerge stronger from these trials, that’s for sure. “ Stronger Coqs Rouges and still as determined to animate the city center of Bordeaux.
