Leipzig have agreed with Chelsea for the return of Werner

Timo Werner returns to RB Leipzig after two years away from Chelsea. Both sides have agreed on a permanent transfer, the Blues can receive a total of 30 million euros including bonuses…

According to German and English sources, the basic transfer fee is 20 million euros, the rest will depend on bonuses. Werner has signed a contract at his old club until 2026, and with an annual income of 10 million euros, he will equal the highest paid Christopher Nkunku.

The 26-year-old attacker did not live up to high expectations at Stamford Bridge, especially last season he did not play regularly and scored only 11 goals in all competitions.

In the end, Werner decided to leave Chelsea and one of the reasons was to have a regular playing load before the World Cup. During the past two years, he played for the London team in 89 competitive duels, in which he scored 23 goals and set up another 21 for his teammates.

“I had two great years at Chelsea, for which I am grateful, we managed to win the Champions League. The experience of another country and different league helped me in my career. Now I am looking forward to the new season with RB Leipzig and above all to the fans. I want a lot to achieve and I would like to become the first Leipzig player to break the 100-goal barrier,” Werner said after signing the contract.

The German international has a lot to build on in a familiar environment, between 2016 and 2020 he scored 90 goals for Leipzig and was the second best Bundesliga scorer (28) before leaving.

Leipzig is active in the transfer market, this morning they announced the arrival of talented striker Benjamin Šešek, who will arrive from friendly Salzburg only in the summer of next year. In addition to the mentioned pair, it engaged defender David Raum (Hoffenheim) and midfielder Xaver Schlager (Wolfsburg).
