LEIDEN – According to Leiden researchers, a medical guideline from 2013 has led to a significant increase in the use of heavy painkillers by the Dutch. Due to the conscious guideline on the control of pain after surgery, doctors have increasingly started prescribing powerful painkillers such as oxycodone, say anesthetist Albert Dahan and clinical epidemiologists Willem L figureing and Frits Rosendaal of the Leiden University Medical Center (LUMC).
