Even after the corona pandemic, toy maker LEGO has again managed to sell billions of euros in blocks. Especially the success of building sets from Harry Potter in Star Wars has done the company good in 2022.
The manufacturer sold blocks for 65 billion Danish kroner (8.7 billion euros) last year. That is 17 percent more than in 2021, which was already a record year because consumers bought LEGO en masse during the corona pandemic.
Although the company also had to deal with higher energy and transport costs, operating profit increased by 5 percent to 2.4 billion euros. “We are returning to normal growth,” said CEO Niels Christiansen.
Next Harry Potter– in Star Warsbuilding sets, a lot of technical LEGO was also sold in 2022.
At the beginning of this century, the group seemed to be heading for bankruptcy. But by also making LEGO kits for adults, the toy manufacturer has since grown into a billion-dollar company. LEGO also entered into partnerships with Disney and car manufacturers. And on television there are programs like LEGO Masters.
