Lego bets in the meta verse | Finansavisen

Epic Games has already outlined ambitious plans for the meta-verse, and on Thursday the company behind the mega-success Fortnite announced that it intended to build part of it together with Lego.

Epic and Lego Group have entered into a long-term partnership with the goal of “shaping the future of the meta-verse” by creating a digital experience where children can play safely online.

The parties have not yet gone into detail about what the project will entail.

– Lego has captivated the imagination of children and adults through creative play for almost a century, and we are happy to come together to build a room in the meta-verse that is fun, entertaining and made for children and families, says founder and CEO Tim Sweeney and Epic Games in one press release.

– Children like to play in both the digital and the physical world, and move seamlessly between the two. We believe there is a great potential for them to develop lifelong skills such as creativity, collaboration and communication through digital experiences, says Lego CEO Niels B. Christiansen in the report.

Kepler Cheuvreux analyst Lars Devold calls the meta-concept “a further development of the Internet”.

The idea is to take us from rolling mobile apps and two-dimensional hyperlinked pages to interconnected, three-dimensional spaces.

Another part of the concept is consistent interoperability between different platforms.

The end point is probably a common meta-activated internet with many platforms between which information and assets can be freely exchanged, according to Devold.

He expects that a bunch of the platforms that buy and sell virtual property over time will be dominant, so that most of the value is concentrated there.
