Lee Nak-yeon, former leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, declared a virtual breakup with the Democratic Party on the 30th and is expected to begin work on creating a new party in earnest.

Former CEO Lee met CEO Lee Jae-myeong at a restaurant near Deoksugung Palace in Jung-gu, Seoul this morning.

The two current and former representatives of the Democratic Party shook hands in front of the stone wall road of Deoksugung Palace, where there is a popular saying, “If lovers walk together, they break up,” and then had a meeting that lasted about 50 minutes, but did not produce any significant results.

Former Representative Lee met with reporters immediately after the meeting and announced his ‘decision to break up’ with the Democratic Party. He said, “I wanted to confirm today’s will for change from Representative Lee Jae-myung, but unfortunately I could not.” He added, “I did not make any special requests, and I expected a response as there have been loyal suggestions from inside and outside the party, but I did not hear anything.”

On this day, Representative Lee Jae-myung announced his intention to reject the demands of former Representative Lee and the non-mainstream lawmakers’ group ‘Principles and Common Sense’ and others for his resignation as leader and the establishment of an integrated emergency response committee.

With the end of the year, which former Representative Lee suggested as the Democratic Party’s deadline for innovation, the work to create a new party is expected to begin in earnest. Former Representative Lee’s side has already begun practical work on founding the party.

It is known that Lee Seok-hyun, former vice-chairman of the National Assembly, who announced his withdrawal from the Democratic Party the previous day (29th), is helping with practical work.

Former Vice Chairman Lee Seok-hyun said at a press conference the previous day, “We have set a deadline of the end of the year, but we cannot wait indefinitely, so we are secretly preparing to found a new party.”

Former Representative Lee is expected to formalize his withdrawal from the Democratic Party and the creation of a new party at the beginning of the year after the weekend.

As his first schedule for the new year, former CEO Lee will hold a New Year’s greetings meeting at Haengjusanseong Fortress in Goyang-si, Gyeonggi-do on the morning of the 1st. About 150 people, including former representative Lee’s associates and supporters, are expected to attend, and it is expected that there will be mention of the new party at the event as well.

Former Representative Lee is expected to mention the Battle of Haengju, which took place at Haengju Mountain Fortress during the Japanese invasions of Korea, and the will to overcome the national crisis and the end of large-scale two-party politics through the new party in the third zone.

When asked about leaving the party and founding a new party after the meeting, former representative Lee said, “I will talk about it gradually, but I will go my own way for something more valuable.”
