Lecce failed to survive in Serie A for next season. They certainly degraded last week Italian League after losing 3-4 to Parma.
Before entertaining Parma at the Stadio Via del Mare on Monday (08/08/2020), WIB Lecce sat in 18th position with 35 points. The club made by Fabio Liverani lost by one point to Genoa in the safe zone, which at the same time entertained Hellas Verona.
Lecce must complete the last week of the season with a 3-4 defeat to Parma. Coming from behind 2-0 through a Parma goal scored by Fabio Lucioni (suicide) and Gianluca Caprari, Lecce was able to force the first half completely 2-2 after Antonin Barak and Biagio Meccariello tore the Parma goal.
In the second half Lecce conceded two goals each through Andreas Cornelius and Roberto Inglese to 2-4 behind. Lecce pulled one back through Gianluca Lapadula’s goal and finished the match with a 3-4 defeat.
In a different match, Genoa ended the season with a 3-0 win over Verona. Davide Nicola’s team scored with a pair of goals from Antonio Sanabria and a goal by Cristian Romero.
Lecce also finished in 18th position with 35 points. The club joined Brescia and SPAL who were relegated to Serie B. Genoa will continue to appear in Serie A next season after finishing one notch above Lecce with 39 points.
To replace the three relegated clubs, there are Benevento and Crotone who are promoted from Serie B. One more ticket must be contested by Spezia, Pordenone Calcio, Cittadella, Chievo, and Empoil, who elbow each other in the play-off phase.
Juventus became the team that won the Scudetto for the ninth time in a row. Ciro Immobile won the top score with a collection of 36 goals.
