Lebanon’s House Speaker Discusses Israeli Aggression with Canadian Ambassador and Health Minister

House Speaker Nabih Berri received, at the Second Presidency in Ain al-Tineh, Canada’s Ambassador to Lebanon, Stephanie McCollum, and discussed with her the general situation in Lebanon and the region and the developments on the ground as a result of Israel’s continued aggression against the Gaza Strip and southern Lebanon.

President Berri discussed with the Minister of Health in the caretaker government, Dr. Firas Al-Abyad, the general conditions, especially the health ones, the readiness of the Ministry of Health, the health sector, and government hospitals to keep pace with the repercussions of the Israeli aggression on Lebanon and the southern regions, and the Ministry of Health’s hospital and medication provisions for patients with cancer and chronic diseases.

Al-Abyad said: “During my visit to the President, I discussed three topics related to health affairs. The first topic: related to the basic services provided by the Ministry and services for providing medicines for patients with cancer and incurable diseases. Everyone knows that within the economic crisis there is a funding crisis, and it has affected the Ministry’s ability to To be supportive of these services provided to patients and the truth in this context.”

He added: “I reviewed with his country the plans drawn up by the Ministry of Health to help in this area, whether in comprehensive coverage of the issue of hospitalization. As well as on the issue of medicine, especially with the new budget that is before the House of Representatives, which notes a significant increase for the Ministry of Health, and this increase, God willing, will help the Ministry to carry out “It fulfills its duties towards citizens. We hope, God willing, that this budget will be passed quickly in the Council, and thus the Ministry will be able to provide more comprehensive coverage for citizens in hospitalization and medicine.”

He continued: “The second issue, which the President was briefed on, is the preparations being made by the Ministry of Health, especially in the face of the Israeli aggression targeting Lebanon, especially the southern regions, and this requires an increase in the degree of preparedness, both in hospitals and care centers, in order to take care of the wounded and our displaced and steadfast families. We are In this matter, there are allocations that the government has allocated to the Ministry of Health, and we, in turn, are following up and making sure that they reach those who deserve them.”

Al-Abyad pointed out that the last topic is some of the affairs of government hospitals, and his state is always concerned with the need to be aware of the important role that government hospitals must play, especially for our people from the most vulnerable classes.
