Lebanon Urged to Implement Resolution 1701: Controlling Southern Border and Withdrawal of Hezbollah

NNA – “Nidaa Al Watan” newspaper wrote: The day after the visit of the caretaker Prime Minister, President Najib Mikati, and the Army Commander, General Joseph Aoun, to the western sector of the southern border and the headquarters of the UNIFIL forces, communications took place at the highest levels, internally and externally, urging the Lebanese authorities to implement their pledges to adhere to the resolution. 1701. According to diplomatic information from “Nidaa al-Watan”, as long as Lebanon declared its commitment to this resolution, it is necessary to work on “assigning the army and UNIFIL forces to control the southern border and the withdrawal of Hezbollah and the Palestinians.” She revealed that an international message with this content was conveyed to Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri and President Mikati.

Is there any other way than assigning the army and UNIFIL to control the southern border? Diplomatic sources answer: “There is no other plan or solution other than this step, otherwise the so-called new rules of engagement, practiced by Hezbollah, would mean the possibility of sliding into war, in light of the volume of casualties on both sides of the border.”

She added: “In order to cancel Hezbollah’s argument that links the southern front to the Israeli ground entry into Gaza, as well as to cancel Israel’s argument for waging war, Lebanon will obtain, through the step of the army and international forces, an American international guarantee that war will not occur. But at the present time, it is not possible to obtain this guarantee, which opens the doors to the possibility that it is Israel that wants war, or that Hezbollah is the one that wants war at the request of Iran. The sources confirmed that “dropping the arguments of Israel and Hezbollah will be through the army and UNIFIL controlling the borders so that there is an international guarantee for peace in Lebanon, and then the international community will bear responsibility so that Lebanon remains free from war.”

The sources concluded by saying that France pointed out that there is “an inevitable strike that Israel will direct against Lebanon, and there is no way to avoid it except by assigning the army and international forces to control the southern borders, in implementation of Resolution 1701, but it has not yet received an answer from the Lebanese authorities, which has angered the French presidency.”

In a related context, President Mikati held a working meeting with the ministers to follow up on the results of Foreign Minister Abdullah Bu Habib’s visit to Syria, and the situation in the south and in Gaza.

In conjunction with the international message to Berri and Mikati, the Secretary-General of Hezbollah, Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, appeared in a meeting with him, the Secretary-General of the Islamic Jihad movement in Palestine, Ziyad Nakhla, and the Deputy Head of the Political Bureau of the Hamas Movement, Saleh Al-Arouri. According to a statement distributed by the “party” with a photo of the meeting, the steps that must be taken to achieve “victory for the resistance” and stop the Israeli attack on the Gaza Strip were discussed.

It was agreed “to continue coordination and permanent follow-up of developments on a daily and permanent basis.” The observers stopped at Nasrallah’s meeting with the Palestinian leaders Nakhal and Al-Arouri, and the announcement of this meeting in the photo, and they saw in it “a suggestion that the axis leaders are moving in a safe and normal manner and are not in a full combat and war mode, but rather are dividing their time between the fronts, political deliberation, and following up on basic files.”

The observers also stopped short of publishing the letter that Nasrallah addressed to the party’s media units and institutions, asking them to “adopt the designation “Martyr on the Road to Jerusalem” for the martyrs who rose since October 7.” They said that this slogan belongs to the leader of the “party,” Imad Mughniyeh, who was assassinated by Israel in 2008 in Damascus.

According to the information, “the party’s media relations instructed its media professionals not to continue talking about ‘red lines.’ If the Israelis crossed them in the war, the ‘party’ and the axis would open the rest of the fronts.”
