Lebanon encourages prevention and vaccination against Covid-19

In a press conference, the head of the sector in the interim government, Firas Al-Abyad, confirmed an increase in epidemiological indicators linked to the pandemic, similar to that experienced by neighboring countries and other parts of the world.

Monitoring teams recorded an increase in daily infections to 120 cases and a positivity rate to 12.8 percent, as well as 82 hospitalized patients, 23 of whom in intensive care and four with the assistance of pulmonary ventilators.

Al-Abyad indicated that the increase in infected responds to the mixing of the holiday and winter seasons; and in this sense he announced the implementation of a group of procedures for monitoring the situation.

The authority reiterated the availability of the Ministry’s insurance in a large number of hospitals and public laboratories to carry out low-cost PCR tests.

At the same time, the manager has called on public and private health institutions to increase their capacity and repurpose a number of wards that have been specifically used to care for Covid-19 patients during the greatest impact.

The Ministry called people to immunize after receiving a French grant of 300,000 doses of Pfizer’s bivalent vaccine with double protection against omicron and the old mutant of the new coronavirus, SARS-CoV-2.

On the other hand, Al-Abyad commented that the current epidemiological situation does not require mandatory community measures and insisted on individual responsibility and the use of a mask as a precaution in meetings and enclosed spaces.

He stressed that citizens with symptoms should isolate themselves and called for a review of preventive measures in educational centers and Rafic Hariri International Airport.

According to the statistical report, Lebanon accumulates a total of 1,223,357 positives and 10,750 deaths since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020.

So far, just over 27 percent of residents have received three injections against Covid-19, while one dose adds to 50.3 of the nearly four million residents registered in the national vaccination system.
