Lebanon Approves Plan to Finance Cancer Medicine for Three Months

The media office of the Minister of Public Health in the caretaker government, Dr. Firas Al-Abyad, issued the following statement: “Today’s cabinet session brings reassuring news for our people who suffer from cancerous and incurable diseases, as our proposal to finance their medicines for three months in an amount equivalent to three thousand billion Lebanese pounds has been approved, in a way that restores order.” Medicine financing and distribution mechanism.

He said: “This decision comes to the Council of Ministers today, awaiting the approval of the general budget, as the Ministry of Health’s budget will include an amount allocated for medicines for cancer and incurable diseases amounting to approximately fourteen thousand billion Lebanese pounds annually.”

He stressed that “the aforementioned steps would not have been possible without a joint and commendable effort between the government, the Ministries of Public Health and Finance, and the Lebanese Parliament, especially the Parliamentary Health, Finance, and Budget Committees.”

He concluded by noting, “There is no doubt that the period with its crises extending for more than four years at all financial, economic, health, and political levels may be reflected in a delay in approving solutions, but it has not and will not succeed in eliminating them. Rather, we are continuing to solve the problems of medicine and market regulation, committed to standing up.” Along with our patients and families.”
