Mrs. Rüegg, why would anyone in New York want to learn German?
Some have a German-speaking partner and want to understand what is said at the family celebration at Christmas. Then there are those with German origins: family tree research is a popular pastime in the United States. Even people who want to learn German out of curiosity or because they expect something from it at work. Or managers who work for a German company with a branch in New York and have to learn German. Maybe sooner or later they will be shipped to Germany. Those are the worst.
