League Cup Match Recap: Arsenal vs Banfield, Sabalero’s Struggle for Permanence

Arsenal and Banfield tied without goals this Monday in Sarandí, in a match for the eighth round of Zone A of the League Cup that pitted two teams fighting for permanence from different realities: while those from the Viaducto are already on the verge of abyss and could lose the category on the next date, the Drill continues looking to distance itself from the large group fighting below.

Darío Espínola’s team came closer in the first half and created the most dangerous chance when Breitenbruch hit the post. Although little by little, Julio César Falcioni’s men managed to smooth out the process.

After some control exerted by the visit, Arsenal was once again incisive with a shot from Chimino, but El Taladro immediately responded with a deflected half turn from Emanuel Insúa.

At the end of time, tempers flared when the reprimanded Nicolás Aguirre made a harsh tackle on Remedi, earning a direct red card and in the tumult for protesting, goalkeeper Alejandro Medina was also sent off. After that there was no time for more.

Sabalero against the ropes

Barracas Central beat Colón de Santa Fe 2-1 at home at the Tomás Adolfo Ducó, for the eighth round of Zone A of the League Cup. With this result, Sabalero remains committed to the fight for permanence.

The Santa Fe team handled the ball and struck first in the first quarter of an hour. After a great team play, Favio Alvarez sent a cross to Tomás Galván, who – after a rebound off Francisco Alvarez – opened the scoring.

In a match with few clear finishes, already in the complement the team led by Néstor Gorosito lost the second. “Wanchope” Abila wasted a counterattack, faced alone and stepped into the area, but goalkeeper Andrés Desábato stole the ball from him.

Shortly after, Barracas reached the tie. Calderara won a header in the area and then Alexis Domínguez defined for the partial 1-1 score.

It seemed that the match ended in a tie, but Guapo managed to turn it around: Carlos Arce hit a volley and, with his great goal, gave the victory to Sergio Rondina’s team, which reached 10 points and was 12th in the table.

For its part, Sabalero remains fourth with 13 points, although it is fighting to remain in the First Division, since it has only 38 points, like Gimnasia La Plata and Huracán.
