Leader of al-Qaeda killed in Afghanistan

The Egyptian is said to have been the second man of al-Qaeda, the organization responsible for the September 11, 2001 attacks in the US.

Afghan authorities announced his death on Twitter. They did not provide details about the operation or when it took place.

Al-Masri has been charged in the US with supplying materials and money to a foreign terrorist organization and plotting to kill Americans.

The operation against Al-Masri took place while peace talks have been ongoing in Qatar between representatives of the Taliban and the Afghan government since September. However, the radical Islamic movement does not want to know about a truce. Experts expect long and arduous negotiations before an agreement can be reached to silence the weapons. Meanwhile, the conflict in Afghanistan continues unabated.
