In Indonesia, more than 1,800 people have registered for the trial of a Chinese vaccine developed in collaboration with an Indonesian pharmaceutical laboratory against Covid-19. The information was relayed on Tuesday by local media. Indeed, adds the same source, the clinical trial is organized by the Indonesian Faculty of Medicine under the University of Padjadjaran in Bandung, but the final results of the vaccine trials may take some months before being announced.
As a first step, if at the end of these tests, the vaccine proves to be safe and effective, the Indonesian pharmaceutical company Bio Farma should produce 100 million doses of said vaccine by December, before increasing its production to 250 million dose next year.
Note that in addition to this Chinese vaccine, Indonesia should also develop its own vaccine “Merah Putih” (red and white), whose name is inspired by the colors of the country’s flag, using the isolated strain of Covid-19 found in Indonesia.
This local vaccine is jointly developed by the Eijkman Institute of Molecular Biology, the Ministry of Research and Technology, the Technology Assessment and Application Agency (BPPT) and the Indonesian Institute of Science (LIPI) .
