Winner of the Champions League with Chelsea, curiously forgotten during the Ballon d’Or ceremony, Edouard Mendy has not forgotten Normandy. Born in Montivilliers (Seine-Maritime), the Franco-Senegalese goalkeeper only played for one season at the training center of Havre Athletic Club before signing for another club in the city and then leaving for Cherbourg. Asked by So Foot, the European champion was invited to speak of a young goalkeeper who impresses him: he replied by quoting a player from League 2.

« The young Yahia Fofana du Havre, says Edouard Mendy. What he does is exceptional. I think he will go far. Recently, in Caen, he made a superb assist, it is the mark of a complete goalkeeper. He is young, tall, strong, agile, strong on his line, he has a great personality… He gives off something, but that doesn’t surprise me at Le Havre, which is a great school for goalkeepers. This is not chauvinism, just an observation. When you see the number of goalkeepers who have been trained at HAC and who have evolved at the highest level behind, the numbers speak. »
