JACARTA – Member of the IX DPR RI Commission Muhammad Rizal asked the Indonesian Ministry of Health to strengthen efforts to prevent and treat dengue haemorrhagic fever (DHF), especially in areas with cases of high endemism.

It is known that as of July 2022 there were 52,313 cases of dengue fever in Indonesia. Of these, 448 people died.

“DHF has become public anxiety, because every rainy season will come this disease. Not only sick, it also causes death,” he said in the working meeting of the IXth Commission of the DPR RI with the Deputy Minister of Health at the DPR RI Building, Senayan, Jakarta, Tuesday (20/20). / 9) night.

Rizal said the rising trend in dengue cases always increases in the rainy season. Therefore, it is hoped that the government will continue to socialize and educate residents to prevent dengue fever.

He gave an example, the case of DHF in the province of Banten which continues to increase.

“We ask the Ministry of Health for attention, for example, spraying equipment must be provided in Puskesmas, especially in Banten, many have been hospitalized due to dengue,” said the politician from the Banten III electoral district.

This F-PAN politician admits it’s not uncommon for his party to be asked by the public to do so fogging to eradicate dengue mosquitoes. “Therefore, it would be better if the government were there, for example by providing spraying equipment and medicines. I think this must be a concern,” she said.

Meanwhile, Deputy Health Minister Dante Saksono Harbuwono presented the innovation in DHF management using Wolbachia mosquitoes. Wolbachia mosquitoes are distributed in the areas with the highest number of DBs.

“This Wolbachia is a mosquito that, if we spread it later, then mates with the Aedes aegypti mosquito, then the Aedes aegypti will no longer contain dengue. So that when you bite a person, that person will not be infected with dengue, so the dengue will be more covered, “Dante said.

According to Dante, this step is quite useful because the death rate has decreased.

“Although the death toll to date is only 23 cases, only 23 of the 2,000 cases existing as of this September,” Dante said.
