Lauterbach and RKI recommend shorter corona quarantines

The Ministry of Health and the Robert Koch Institute recommend reducing isolation to five days after a Covid infection. In the meantime there are many, but mostly lighter infections. The concept, which was sent to the federal states on Wednesday, is available to the German Press Agency. So far, secretions usually last ten days and can be ended with a negative test after seven days.

No more strict isolation

Specifically, if you are infected yourself, isolation should last five days in the future. It should be recommended to voluntarily reduce contacts and – starting after five days – to carry out repeated tests or self-tests. In addition, “no strict isolation” should no longer be specified. A formal order from the health department, which is often no longer given, should be omitted in the future.

According to the proposal, the quarantine for contact persons of infected people should also last five days in the future and no longer has to be a “strict quarantine”. It should be recommended to voluntarily reduce contacts and test yourself daily.

No symptoms for 48 hours at the end of the isolation

The five-day rule should therefore also apply to employees in healthcare and nursing. In order to end isolation because of an infection, the proposal states that one must be symptom-free for 48 hours beforehand. In addition, you should have to present a negative test, which can be taken on the fifth day at the earliest.

Lauterbach had expressly announced that the federal states could still submit their own proposals. The aim is to be able to work with a new regulation in the next week.
