The current president of the Montpellier club did not hide his jealousy towards the atmosphere which reigns at the Stade de la Meinau and around Racing Club de Strasbourg in an interview with the site allezpaillade.com :
“I want to hear everything, but I don’t think that in Strasbourg or Lens they do marketing operations so that people come to the stadium. They have other strengths. When you see guys in blue everywhere an hour and a half from kick-off, when you see the bars full and more than 10,000 people at the stadium, you get a little jealous of not being president of Strasbourg. You tell yourself that they, at least, have support, people to give more to the club. It’s also frustration, we wonder why we can’t do it. Afterwards, it’s Alsace over there, it’s a bit of a German mentality: people come before, stay after, consume. We wonder what is less good in Montpellier. I don’t know what to do. We can do poster campaigns, pubs, but the guy who likes La Paillade knows that on Sundays at 3 p.m. we play at La Mosson. I don’t think you need 4 by 3s in town everywhere. When we were in D2 we did it to encourage, but here we are in Ligue 1, we have finished in the top 8 for 4 years, but at some point… The guy who loves the club, he comes”.
