Laura H., the Zoetermeerse who married a jihadist and returned from the Caliphate, received compensation for the interview with her in the TV program People with M on Christmas Day last year. Minister Slob replies to questions from the VVD that the KRO-NCRV paid her 400 euros for the interview with Margriet van de Linden.
It is not unusual for guests in TV programs to receive compensation. Slob writes that the producer of People with M has reported to him that the budget includes a ‘guest allowance’ item of up to 750 euros per guest.
Revenue model
VVD MP Zohair El Yassini, who asked the questions, finds it “impossible” that public money is used to pay convicted IS-goers and terrorists to tell their stories on television. According to him, they can make a revenue model of their crimes. El Yassini wants Slob to discuss this with the NPO and the broadcasters.
But Slob sees nothing in this, given the editorial independence of the broadcasters. “It is up to the broadcasters to determine the content of their programs,” he writes.
At the moment, a television series is being worked on about Laura H., who was sentenced to eleven months in prison after her return from the caliphate. Slob writes that it is not yet known whether the public broadcaster will purchase that series.
