‘Launch Viaplay in the Netherlands exceeds expectations’ | Financial

The Swedish company says that in the first quarter of this year a total of 778,000 paid subscribers were added in all markets where the company is active. The Netherlands accounted for the vast majority of customer growth, according to NENT, which did not mention precise numbers. In total, Viaplay has 1.2 million paying viewers in its international division. The Netherlands is the most important market for this, the group says. Including its Nordic home markets, Viaplay now has 4.8 million paid subscribers.

The subscription channel also started in the Netherlands at the beginning of March this year and has invested heavily in sports. In addition to Formula 1, the company also broadcasts the Bundesliga football competition and, from next season, the English Premier League. Viaplay also offers series and films. With this, Viaplay is competing with pay channel ESPN and streaming services such as Netflix, Videoland and Disney+.

Viaplay is NENT’s most recognizable brand and the only one to have a presence in all of its markets. It also generates the most revenue for the company. Viaplay is currently available in 11 countries and will be rolled out in at least 16 countries before the end of 2023. The number of subscribers should reach approximately 12 million by the end of 2025.
