That’s exactly where Rickenbacher hooks up. «You can always improve, of course. But how can Urs Lehmann say something like that without giving numbers? »He asks rhetorically. He deliberately did not seek contact with the media. “But if I am asked how now from the VIEW, I will answer.”
Rickenbacher, who has been in the OK for three years, does the following: «In 2007 the budget was CHF 4.5 million. At that time, Swiss Ski took over around 40% with 1.8 million and the OK 2.7 million. After that, the budget rose sharply because the World Ski Association increased the infrastructure requirements. And because success also brought more costs – for example in the area of security. In 2020 the budget was 8.7 million. These additional costs are almost entirely borne by the better marketing of Wengen itself: the OK financed 6.5 million today – Swiss-Ski, on the other hand, 2.2 million, or 25%. I don’t really have to say any more. »

And yet Rickenbacher does. Not because the former Bern government councilor feels hurt by Lehmann’s statements. «I was in politics for too long. I have thick skin, »he says with a laugh. Rather, he wants to praise his employees. «We have more than doubled our share in recent years. I am proud of my team. » One has to say: While Wengen generates income through ticket sales (including VIP packages), merchandising and catering, Swiss Ski passes on its chunks through TV money and sponsors (gangs). The whole thing is supplemented by contributions from the public sector.

University degree in marketing
Rickenbacher admits that he is not a marketing professional. So not what Lehmann wants. But at least he has a university degree in marketing. He does his job on a part-time basis, often in his free time, and he is very happy to do so. «I was shot in public for no reason. But now it is time to look ahead. A lot of things go well with Swiss Ski – I don’t want to put it down. I am convinced that we will still see many wonderful ski races at the foot of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau. But now solutions are needed. »
