Latvians from abroad come to Mežapark’s Great Stage with a sense of celebration Press release

Today, the first big day of joint rehearsals for the concert performance DZIESMA DEJO.DEJA SKAN, which will take place on August 4, 5 and 6, begins at the Mežaparka Grand Stage. Among the participants are also 10 collectives of Latvians living abroad, who started rehearsing in Mežapark yesterday.

Diaspora dancers from Ireland, Sweden, England and other countries started working yesterday in the rehearsals of the concert performance DZIESMA DEJO.DEJA SKAN on the Mežapark stage and tried out the dance steps long before the start of the big rehearsals under the leadership of chief conductor Ilze Mazāne.

Dancers share their joy for the opportunity to be together, meet other collectives, make new friends and be part of this celebration here in Latvia. “We have come to be a part of the celebration, because we are from Latvia, we belong here. Let’s celebrate together!”, Dina, the leader of the dance collective “Rietumkrasts” from Ireland, shares with the joy of being together. And as Anna, the leader of the dance group “Jautrais Pāris” from London, admits, she really liked the idea that choirs and dancers are in the same performance. In general, the diaspora dancers emphasize that they came here for friendship.

In the upcoming concert performance, THE SONG DANCES. More than 6,000 participants participate in DEJA SKAN, including collectives from foreign countries. Together with Latvian dancers and singers, collectives from Great Britain, Germany, Sweden, Norway, Belgium, Ukraine and other countries will be on the same square. Not only in the ranks of the participants, but also among the spectators will be foreigners, that is, so far representatives of 26 different countries of the world have bought tickets for the concerts.

The participants will demonstrate both a well-known repertoire and a creation specially created for this event, the author of the musical part of which is multiple GRAMMY award nominee UďIS PRAULIņŠ and choreographer AGRIS DANIĞEVIĆŠ, who together with MĀRTIņU KLIŠĆAN are also the artistic directors of the performance.
