“Garkalne” / “Livonia” won the square of Riga Technical College with the result 29:23 (21:11).
The game between the two irreconcilable opponents turned out to be quite sharp and tense.
“Livonian” Markus Kralliss was the first to take the ball behind the end line, and Donovan Randt’s exact realization immediately followed. Subsequently, two penalties taken by Juris Iesalnieks cleared the advantage of “Garkalne” / “Livonia” to one point, but Markus Bēmers’ landing already gave control to the “butchers” – 11: 7.
By the end of the half, Clement Berry White had made two groundings and Randts was unmistakable in both implementations, going to Garkalne / Livonia with a ten-point lead – 21:11. In the second half, Randt’s penalty kick and White’s landing allowed Livonia to reach an 18-point handicap.
By the end of the match, “Butchers” regained 12 points. At first it was successful with a penalty ground, but then Andris Andersons delivered the “melons” to the test area.
Gundars Grieķis was recognized as the best player for the winners, and Toms Asejevs as the opponents.
Vice-champion “Garkalne” / “Livonia” has won in all three games this season, but “Ķekava” / “Miesnieki” rugby has succeeded in four of the five fights.
Six teams will start in the Latvian Rugby Championship 2021 – “Garkalne” / “Livonia”, “Ķekava” / “Miesnieki”, “Rāmavas Lāči”, “Valmiera Fēnikss”, “Eži” / “EK Sistēmas” and “Jūrmala” .
A total of 30 games will be played in the regular season.
The 2021 Latvian rugby championship will take place from June 17 to October 10. It is planned to play a two-round tournament in the main tournament by September 12. The winners of the first two places of the regular season will automatically qualify for the semi-final battles, but the clubs from the third to the sixth place will play in the quarter-finals for entering the semi-finals (3-6, 4-5).
After that, the semi-final matches will be played, in which the winner of the first place in the main tournament will fight against the winner of the 4th-5th place pair, but the team in the second place will fight against the winner of the 3rd-6th place match in the Latvian Championship semi-final. The losers of the first round of the playoffs will also split fifth and sixth. In all “play-off” games, the winner will be determined in one game.
