Riga, March 5, LETA. On Saturday evening in Rēzekne, Latgale Embassy “Gors”, the winners of ten Latgalian cultural annual awards “Boņuks 2021” were honored, and choral conductor Jānis Gruduls was awarded an award for a lifetime contribution to the development of Latgalian culture, the organizers informed LETA.

The project “# 100decentors for Latvia” in digital, tactile, audio-visual and sign language, the Latgalian sign of the Balvi region, the folklore group “Vīteri” and the video story “Teika par Rēzeknes rozi”, as well as the book and a music album for children “Vuškeņa iz pļovys”.

Also awarded were the group “Latgalīšu reps” with the album “Cyta dzela” and videos, radio readings of Ilze Sperga’s collection of stories “Dzeiveiba”, Marijis Dzeislys collection of poems “Vysta smierts”, writer and editor Ilze Sperga, navigation application “Waze” in Latgalian and the first breakout room in Latgalian “Pīci verses”.

The record studio “Bigmaar’s Records” became the winner of the public sympathy vote “Žyka”.

The organizers of the ceremony – the team of the Latgale Embassy “Gors” – emphasize that they are really happy about both the year 2021 rich in Latgalian culture and the opportunity to hold this year’s award ceremony in person, meeting with the audience.

The award ceremony was led by comedian Jānis Skutelis. The audience was entertained live and live by the groups “Without VAT”, “Muosys”, “Jakob Noiman Band”, “Varang Nord”, “Saucējas”, musicians Ūga, Patrisha and Dināra Rudāne, as well as in the concert “Celisel bruoļ!” the ensemble, which unites recognizable Latgalian musicians.

This year, the awards for activities, work and achievements in Latgalian culture will be presented for the 14th time. The aim of the Latgalian Culture Year Award is to summarize the best, brightest and most important achievements and events in Latgalian culture last year, to honor the most active representatives and promoters of Latgalian culture, as well as to promote and encourage the development of creativity and cultural diversity in the future.

The criteria for evaluating applicants are the quality of performance, activity throughout the year, the resonance caused in the region, country or on a larger scale, and Latgalianism and / or carrying Latgale cultural values, the applicant’s sustainability – the impact on Latgalian cultural processes in the future.
