For the period June 1 – July 25, 2022, the total number of tourist registrations in accommodation exceeds 1.8 million.

The domestic market is the leader with over 990 thousand registrations of Bulgarians in accommodation, followed by the markets of Romania – over 260 thousand, Poland – over 98 thousand, Germany – over 70 thousand, the Czech Republic – over 56 thousand, Great Britain – over 50 thousand, Israel – over 33 thousand, Moldova – over 29 thousand

The expectations of the Ministry of Tourism are that the 2022 summer season will finish at a level slightly above 80% of the results of the 2019 summer season.

The war in Ukraine and the rapid increase in cases of COVID-19, as well as the situation at airports in Europe with canceled flights, have had an unprecedented impact and continue to have a negative effect on the tourism industry and transport worldwide. Due to the combined influence of these negative factors, it is not completely excluded that the overall growth of tourism for the summer season will be below 10%. Despite these circumstances, growth from many key foreign markets is forecast to be in the double digits.

Markets such as Great Britain, Israel, Slovakia, Norway and others are expected to report serious growth compared to the summer season of 2021. For this summer season, better results of scheduled flights at sea airports are expected for the Poland market with 38% growth, for the Czech Republic – 44% growth, for Germany – 18% growth, Israel – 2 times growth and Great Britain – nearly 4 times growth of scheduled flights (according to data from July 27).

The number of scheduled flights remains dynamic due to the influence of various factors.

The data shows that the 2021 summer season was very strong for the domestic market. In the summer of 2022, the opportunities for Bulgarians to travel abroad are increasing, but many still choose to vacation in our country and the domestic market remains the leader.
