Late Winner by Bellingham Secures Victory for Real Madrid against Union Berlin in Historic Match

Union Berlin was on its way to grabbing a historic point in its first participation in the prestigious continental competition, but Bellingham snatched the winning goal for the Royal Club, which holds the record for the number of titles (14), in the fourth penultimate minute of stoppage time.

It is Bellingham’s sixth goal in six matches in Real Madrid colors in various competitions since he joined their ranks this summer from German club Borussia Dortmund.

Real Madrid imposed its control over the course of the match and created many chances, but its striker Joselu, on loan from Espanyol, was not lucky to translate most of them, in addition to the remarkable brilliance of Danish international goalkeeper Frederic Rono, who saved the fourth goal in the German League last season on more than one occasion.

Later, Braga of Portugal will play against Napoli of Italy from the same group.

Real Madrid’s Italian coach, Carlo Ancelotti, made four changes to his squad that won over Real Sociedad 2-1 in the league last Saturday, bringing in captain Nacho Hernandez in place of Fran Garcia, Lucas Vazquez in place of the injured Dani Carvajal, Frenchman Eduardo Camavinga in place of Uruguayan Federico Valverde, and Croatian Luka Modric in place. German Toni Kroos.

Real Madrid imposed its advantage from the beginning, but Union Berlin was the first to threaten from a counterattack led by Sheraldo Becker and passed the ball on a golden platter to the penetrating Kevin Behrens, who shot it near the left post (3).

Real Madrid responded with a header to striker Joselu from close range following a pass from Englishman Jude Bellingham into the hands of Danish goalkeeper Frederic Rono (3).

The home team almost did it with a header by Behrens from close range that went a few centimeters above the crossbar (5), and Joselu responded with a header from close range after a pass to Vazquez near the right post (6).

Austrian David Alaba took a direct free kick over the crossbar (23), and a third header went to Joselu from a corner kick over the crossbar (25).

Similar to the first half, Union Berlin was the first to threaten with a strong shot towards defender Robin Goosens from inside the area next to the right post (49).

Real Madrid almost did it on three occasions in one minute (51) when Rodrigo received a falling ball on the right side from Vasques, so he prepared it for himself with his head and penetrated into the area before shooting it forcefully, but goalkeeper Rono blocked it and it was prepared in front of Modric, who passed it to Vasques, who raised it with a cross, which the Brazilian followed up on. Al-Tayer’s right hand from close range bounced off the left post and was dispersed by the defense. It prepared for Camavinga outside the area, and he shot it powerfully, creeping close to the right post (51).

Real Madrid continued its pressure, and Camavinga prepared a ball on a golden platter for Joselu inside the area, and he shot it forcefully, but goalkeeper Rono Rono blocked it before veteran Italian defender Leonardo Bonucci sent it away to a corner that did not yield results (55).

Goalkeeper Rono and the right post of his goal prevented Joselu from opening the scoring by blocking his header from close range following a cross pass to Vasquez (63).

Ancelotti replaced Valverde and Kroos with Frenchmen Aurelien Chouamini and Camavinga (66).

Renault continued his brilliance and blocked a strong shot by Modric from outside the area into a corner (69), and Joselu shot a ball from close range following a pass from Bellingham near the left post (83).

The pressure of the Royal Club resulted in a goal in the fatal time when Kroos played a corner kick to Valverde, who shot it powerfully, but was blocked by substitute defender Paul Jekyll. It bounced off his Czech teammate Alex Kral and set up in front of an unmarked Bellingham, who easily followed it into the empty goal (90+4).
