Last year, LVM spent 32.4% more on waste removal from forests than a year earlier – Branches – Financenet

According to the information available on LVM’s website, last year the state joint stock company collected 1997 cubic meters of waste, which is the largest indicator in the last decade. In the period from 2010 to 2019, LVM has invested more than 635,000 euros in its managed forests, collecting 15,171 cubic meters of waste.

“One of the reasons for this increase in waste in the forest is the still unresolved issues of waste collection and sorting in certain settlements, which are the responsibility of the municipality. No less important is the rising costs of waste collection and disposal, “said Edmunds Linde, Head of Forestry Planning at LVM. He emphasizes that large piles of waste in forests indicate a purposeful organized disposal of waste, which, judging by its content, is most often brought by various loads from construction sites, car repair shops and various second-hand goods outlets.

LVM has been implementing the social campaign “Do not fertilize in the forest” in Latvia since 2005, thus trying to draw the public’s attention to waste problems in forests.

It has already been reported that the turnover of “Latvijas valsts meži” in 2019 was 375.131 million euros, which is 12.6% more than a year earlier, while the company’s profit decreased by 4.4% – to 105.017 million euros. The owner of “Latvijas valsts mežu” is the state, but the holder of shares is the Ministry of Agriculture.
