Last year for insecticide that kills bees | Inland

The Bijenstichting, the Noordbrabants Landschap, Natuur & Milieu and Greenpeace filed a case against the use of five pesticides with imidacloprid. They did this after it had been scientifically established that the drug affects the nervous system of bees and bumblebees, among other things, and that the animals die as a result. Almost 360 bee species live in the Netherlands. The animals are important for crop pollination, but more than half of the bee species are endangered.

The legal process against the use of the plant protection products took so long that the CBb no longer had to rule on four of the five contested products, since they have already been banned. The drug Admire can still be supplied in the Netherlands until 1 June of this year. From 2022, this product will also be banned, as the manufacturer has not applied for re-registration. According to the CBb, the Board for the Authorization of Plant Protection Products and Biocides (Ctgb) did not fall short at the time in assessing the risk of Admire. The CBb therefore rejects objections to this assessment. The judgment of the CBb is final.
