Last flight with evacuees from Afghanistan lands at Schiphol | Inland

In the coming days, the Dutch soldiers and diplomats will return who have arranged the evacuation at Kabul’s international airport in recent days. Some of the soldiers will remain in the region until August 31.

Earlier Friday, a plane with evacuees landed at Schiphol. Of the hundred passengers, 98 were with a Dutch passport. More than 2,500 people have been evacuated from Afghanistan by Defense in recent days, 1,600 of whom remain in the Netherlands.

It is not yet known how many people were left behind who had wanted to evacuate the Netherlands. It’s probably hundreds. For example, it turned out that there were many more Dutch people in Afghanistan than had been estimated in advance.

According to outgoing minister Ank Bijleveld (Defence), about thirty interpreters were left behind. Some of them have contact. The cabinet is doing everything it can to help those left behind, said outgoing minister Sigrid Kaag (Foreign Affairs) before the start of the cabinet meeting.
