Larry David Opens Up About Stress Over “Curb Your Enthusiasm” Finale

Larry David, the creator and star of the hit HBO comedy series “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” recently opened up about his stress and nervousness regarding the show’s upcoming finale. In an interview with Savannah Guthrie on the “Today” show, David admitted that he was feeling a little bit anxious about giving the show a proper sendoff.

When asked about his feelings towards the finale, David responded, “A little bit if I may be honest, which I don’t like being.” He also jokingly referred to the controversial finale of another popular sitcom he co-created, “Seinfeld,” saying, “There was some to-do about the ‘Seinfeld’ finale. So, we’ll see what happens.”

The “Seinfeld” finale, which aired in 1998, received mixed reviews from fans. While some felt it was a letdown compared to the show’s previous seasons, others appreciated the fact that the characters never learned anything and the plots were not heartfelt. This unique approach set “Seinfeld” apart from other sitcoms at the time.

David, who co-created “Seinfeld” with Jerry Seinfeld, has carried on the same comedic style in “Curb Your Enthusiasm.” The show follows a fictionalized version of David as he navigates various social situations, often finding himself in awkward and cringe-worthy moments. The mantra of both shows is “No hugging, no learning,” emphasizing their refusal to follow traditional sitcom tropes.

In a recent announcement, David revealed that the upcoming 12th season of “Curb Your Enthusiasm” would be its last. He expressed his desire to shed his on-screen persona and return to being a thoughtful and considerate person. However, when pressed for details about the finale, David remained tight-lipped, stating, “I can’t. I don’t want to.”

Despite the stress surrounding the show’s conclusion, David expressed that he is not “bummed” about it ending after 24 years. He humorously remarked, “I’m almost ready for a nursing home. I think it’s a little old for a grown man to be acting like that.”

During the interview, David also shared some insights into his personal social graces. He described his approach to “stop and chat” encounters, where he pretends to know someone well and stays in line with them. He admitted to enjoying these interactions but keeps them brief, limiting himself to around 15 or 20 seconds.

David’s candid and unfiltered nature was evident throughout the interview. He expressed his disinterest in trending topics such as the Stanley Cup and Taylor Swift’s romance, stating, “I don’t give a s—.” He even caused a bit of a stir before his segment by playfully interrupting Elmo’s interview and shaking the Muppet’s face.

Despite his antics, David later apologized to Elmo and the hosts, Hoda Kotb and Savannah Guthrie, at the beginning of his own segment. He laughed hysterically as he expressed his remorse, saying, “Elmo, I just want to apologize. I’m really sorry.”

As fans eagerly await the finale of “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” it’s clear that Larry David’s unique comedic style and unapologetic personality will leave a lasting impression. While he may be feeling some stress about giving the show a proper sendoff, there’s no doubt that David will deliver an unforgettable conclusion to his beloved series.
