Italian luxury car manufacturer Lamborghini surprised attendees at this year’s Monterey Car Week by unveiling its first-ever electric vehicle (EV) ahead of schedule. The Lamborghini Lanzador concept, part of the company’s Direzione Cor Tauri electrification strategy, is a “high ground-clearance GT” with a 2+2 seating format and two doors. While it shares similarities with the Urus SUV in terms of footprint, the Lanzador has a more coupe or sedan-like presence.
Lamborghini CEO Stephan Winkelmann explained that the company wanted to fill a gap in its lineup by introducing a GT car. He stated that the Lanzador perfectly matches the DNA of Lamborghini, which is known for its super sports cars and SUVs.
The Lanzador features an electric motor on each axle, providing an all-electric drive setup. In certain conditions, it can deliver peak power of over one megawatt, equivalent to more than 1,000 horsepower. The all-wheel drive system also includes active e-torque vectoring on the rear axle, enhancing the car’s dynamic cornering behavior.
In terms of design, the Lanzador stands out from other Lamborghinis. Lamborghini’s head of design, Mitja Borkert, revealed that the concept was inspired by spaceships, giving it a unique and futuristic appearance. The cabin has a forward-look design with sharp lines and creases, resembling an alien python from another dimension.
Inside the Lanzador, Lamborghini has created a jet fighter-like cockpit with hard angles and a variety of textures and materials. The interior will feature sustainably sourced leather, 100% renewable merino wool, regenerated carbon, and recycled plastic.
Although Lamborghini did not disclose the pricing or exact availability of the production model, the company plans to debut it in 2028. As the concept is expected to closely resemble the final product, car enthusiasts can look forward to experiencing Lamborghini’s first-ever EV in the coming years.
