Lamar Jackson suffers with a groin injury

OWINGS MILLS, Maryland – Baltimore Ravens quarterback and current NFL MVP Lamar Jackson missed the last two practices of training camp due to a groin injury, sources told ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Jackson is scheduled to return to action on Monday, the sources added.

After practice Sunday, coach John Harbaugh described Jackson’s injury as “soft tissue,” but didn’t elaborate beyond that.

“It’s training ground and we’re getting closer to the season,” Harbaugh warned. “We are not talking too much about injuries.”

The Ravens open the regular season in three weeks when they host the Cleveland Browns and Robert Griffin III has replaced Jackson for the past two days.

Initially, the Ravens gave another reason for Jackson’s absence when he surprisingly didn’t practice on Saturday. Assistant head coach David Culley said Jackson had a day off to rest his arm.

When asked on Sunday if a tired arm was classified as an injury, Harbaugh said, “No, I’m not going to get into all that. You guys are investigating and playing Dick Tracy.”

Last season, Jackson became the second unanimous MVP after leading the league with 36 touchdown passes and setting the NFL record for rushing yards for a quarterback with 1,120 yards. He became the first player in league history to produce more than 3,000 yards through the air and 1,000 yards on the ground in a single season.

The Ravens will return to the practice field Monday morning.

Pro Bowl cornerback Marcus Peters is also dealing with an injury and has been out of action the past two practices, Harbaugh said.
