LaLiga and Movistar Plus+ win joint lawsuit against piracy

LaLiga announced that the Commercial Court number 9 of Barcelona has resolved in his favor the joint lawsuit filed with Movistar Plus+ and enables them to weekly block access to domains that facilitate content piracy LaLiga.

The judgment of July 25 last establishes that this protection measure is necessary, since “numerous cases of digital piracy that flagrantly affect the exploitation of their rights” have been detected with “different models of piracy of audiovisual content on the Internet (especially of sports content)”

Specifically, it refers to the so-called “dynamic blocking” measure, which will not be applied on a one-off basis, but rather weekly with the new identifications of URLsdomains and addresses IPwithout the need to notify the court in advance.

Operative from the week of August 8 before the start of the league competition on the 12th, the sentence will be in force until the 2024-2025 season.

LaLiga recalled that this judicial ruling is in line with other courts of the Mercantile of Madrid (No.7) and Barcelona (No. 6), issued in February 2020 and December 2021, respectively, which enabled a similar protection mechanism.

“In this way, progress is made in the consolidation of a jurisprudence that reinforces the legal tools to combat piracy with respect to the sustainability of the exploitation of content of LaLiga“, he pointed.

The agency also reported that Movistar Plus+ has won another sentence in line with the previous one, so that Internet access telecommunications operators in Spain have to weekly block access to domains that facilitate the piracy of audiovisual content on the platform.
