Laima Vaikule: Putin has never earned my trust

Laima Vaikule admitted that she became interested in politics during the war between Chechnya and Georgia. Since Russia invaded Ukraine last year, she has become increasingly involved in politics.

In the story, she revealed that she met Putin several times. “If he wants to, he can make a very good impression.” Despite the positioning of her image, Vaikule says that she has never trusted Putin.

“I somehow felt everything and knew that people in this profession – they can never be trusted,” notes Vaikule.

Laima Vaikule remembers how many years ago she wanted to support Mikhail Gorbachev, but an acquaintance advised her not to support politicians “because you never know what he will do next”.

In her narration, the artist emphasizes that she categorically opposes the war: “I am talking about the fact that an adult takes the lives of very young people. It is not fair. I am against the war!”

Also during a recent concert in Israel, she expressed her support for Ukraine from the stage, and also paid tribute to Yelena Koladenko, the choreographer of the ballet show “Freedom”, who appeared on stage with the Ukrainian flag on her shoulders at Vaikule’s invitation. The slogan “Glory to Ukraine! Glory to the heroes!” was also heard at the concert in Tel Aviv.
