L’Acadie Nouvelle Concludes New Collective Agreement with Unionized Employees

L’Acadie Nouvelle has just concluded a new collective agreement with its unionized employees.

The employment contract, lasting two years, will cover the years 2023 and 2024. It was recently approved by employees by more than 93%.

The 35 union members of Acadie Nouvelle work in the fields of writing, creation, administration, sales, customer service and computer technologies.

The contract was signed Monday at the newspaper’s head office in Caraquet.

Its terms have not been disclosed. However, it appears that in addition to salary increases, adjustments have been made with regard to leave and vacations.

Francis Sonier, the publisher and general director of Acadie Nouvelle, believes that the agreement will benefit both parties.

“We are always very satisfied to conclude a new employment contract with our employees, who are our partners in the evolution of the company. They were good negotiations.”

Martin Roy, the president of the Acadie Nouvelle employees union, believes for his part that the discussions have taken the right turn.

“The climate of all the negotiations was calm. Both parties were pragmatic and the whole process went well. We reached an agreement that was satisfactory for both parties.”

Mr. Sonier, for his part, indicated that the employment contract, in its current format, will provide Acadie Nouvelle with the flexibility it needs.

“The last agreements were for two years. We prefer to talk to each other often and be more precise and adequate. We know what’s going on in the industry, so it’s easier that way. Two years is short, but considering the context, it satisfies us, and the union as well.”
