La Rioja extends its 100 kilometers of diversity in Ireland and the United Kingdom

The Regulatory Council of DOCa Rioja advances in its commitment to internationalization and positioning in key foreign markets for the wine market. In this line, the Appellation has concretized its international proposal by celebrating its “Rioja, 100 kilometers of diversity” event in London and Dublin, showcasing the great variety, contrasts and quality of its product in the British and Irish markets.

Thus, after having organized a great event for professionals under this motto in Madrid, Rioja has extended this concept and exhibited the largest tasting of the last ten years in that market, thus trying to continue strengthening its already relevant position in both countries, the United Kingdom, the United Kingdom and Ireland, identified as strategic markets for the Denomination due to their great growth potential.

After the event and tasting in Dublin on November 16, where more than 210 Rioja wines from 49 Rioja wineries and importers were presented to nearly 100 professionals from the country, London took over this past Tuesday (November 22). . , bringing together nearly 200 industry professionals of different profiles – sommeliers, importers, wine educators and prescribers, etc. – who were able to discover firsthand the quality and wide portfolio of Rioja wines.

Specifically, in the British capital, more than 280 Rioja wines from 69 appellation wineries and importers were exhibited, offering participants the opportunity to visit and taste the 100 kilometers of varieties and contrasts that Rioja hosts. For this, the show had an excellent proposal and range of wines, including those of Viñedo Singular, sparkling Rioja and new releases, among others.

In addition to the tasting, attendees had the opportunity to attend two seminars, both with full registration prior to the event, demonstrating the great interest Rioja arouses in the British and Irish markets.

The first of the seminars was directed by the renowned Master of Wine Tim Atkin, who addressed and deepened one of the most important classification categories of Rioja: Singular Vineyards. For his part, it was the editor of Club O, Guy Woodward, who headed the second panel in which the latest Rioja trends and new varieties were analyzed, also highlighting the Viñedo Singular wines.

“After two years of disruption to face-to-face events, it seemed timely and very important to offer Rioja wineries a platform to resume commercial activity in the UK and Ireland. In this sense, relying on diversity was the perfect idea to be able to present the most consolidated offer, as well as the latest innovations, which are not few”, assured the Director of Marketing and Communications, Iñigo Tapiador.

For his part, winemaker Bryan MacRobert, of MacRobert & Canals, who did not want to miss the event, underlined: “It was very exciting to be back in the UK to showcase our wines to an engaged and passionate Rioja audience. It’s wonderful to see that he recognizes Rioja for its diversity, a great subject for a tasting.”

These types of high-impact initiatives represent progress in the implementation of the 2021-2025 Strategic Plan promoted by the Regulatory Council of the Denomination of Qualified Origin Rioja, which focuses on the international promotion and growth of Rioja.
