La Nación / The climate harms soybean and corn crops

Despite the latest rains recorded in various parts of the country, the drought continues to impact the countryside, added to the high temperatures that remain. This combination is not conducive to newly planted corn and soybean crops, which are already being affected, according to a report by the Agricultural Coordinator of Paraguay (CAP).

Aurio Frighetto, representative of the union in the department of Alto Paraná, said that corn and soybeans in Zafriña are feeling a lot the lack of water. “The climate is very hot, the zafriña maize is very suffering and feels the lack of water; germinating seasonal soybeans are practically doomed,” he noted.

Likewise, he mentioned that they are “anxious again waiting for the rains, but it is difficult”, since with the rainfall registered two weeks ago they considered that the outlook could improve a little in the field.

Regarding the soybean harvest, Víctor Penayo, representative of the CAP in the second department, indicated that in the harvest it is at 75% development, while the sowing of corn in the Zafriña is at 30%.
