La Nación / Historical record of Paraguayan beef exports stands out

“Paraguay exported more than 283,214 tons of beef between January and October 2021, which became a historical record for the country”, highlights the international media EuroMeat New, digital medium dedicated to news about livestock production.

It mentions that, according to a report from the National Animal Quality and Health Service (Senacsa), beef exports during the first 10 months of 2021 are worth more than US $ 1.3 billion.

Chile was the main market for beef produced in Paraguay, with 116,887 tons. It is followed by Russia (68,996 tons), Brazil (25,814 tons), Taiwan (25,429 tons) and Israel (15,339 tons).

In 2022, Paraguay expects to increase beef exports, adding to the US market as one of the important destinations for this product. In early November, a delegation from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) arrived in the country to audit the local beef industry to determine if Paraguayan meat could enter the US market.

“We are very confident that we will pass the test. The United States has its processes and bureaucracies that must be considered, but after the November audit we are sure that we are going to export to that market ”, stated Mario Balmelli, president of the Meat Committee of the Rural Association of Paraguay (ARP), quoted by the newspaper MercoPress.

Paraguay expects to obtain a quota similar to those granted to Uruguay and Argentina by the United States, 20,000 tons.

Days ago, another international media, but from Brazil, also echoed the good numbers of Paraguayan meat exports and greater market penetration. This is the AgroMais portal, which disclosed the interview with the president of the Union of Production Guilds (UGP), Héctor Cristaldo, who highlighted that Paraguay exported between 300 and 500 million dollars, while this year shipments are already around above 1,000 million dollars.

He also added in the note that international prices helped the best income from exports; however, the domestic price became more expensive. “Paraguay is consolidating itself with a very good quality meat thanks to the work to improve the infrastructure, as well as the nutritional and genetic issues of the animals,” he emphasized.

According to official data from the Foreign Trade report of the Central Bank of Paraguay (BCP), meat exports, for their part, reached US $ 1,445.3 million as of October 2021, representing an increase of 53.7% compared to the US $ 940.2 million as of October of last year. Meanwhile, in volume, it increased by 27.4% compared to October of the previous year.
