La Jornada – Xochimilco will collect disused oxygen tanks

Mexico City. The Xochimilco Mayor’s Office will begin this week a campaign to collect and donate oxygen tanks for vulnerable groups and people who have Covid-19 patients; thermometers, oximeters and baumanometers will be delivered; and online respiratory therapies will be offered for people in recovery.

It is, explained Mayor José Carlos Acosta, that families who have disused tanks or had the unfortunate loss of a member due to coronavirus, can donate their tank to other people who now need it.

“We are going to launch the collection campaign with people who have had sick people and have died and with those who do not occupy it, because they are very scarce and many people do not have to rent or buy, since their cost ranges from six thousand to 20 A thousand pesos”.

The tanks that are delivered will be taken for maintenance, and free refills will be established, which is very important at this time, given the demand in the service and the difficulties in obtaining them, which can be the difference for those who have respiratory problems caused by the virus.

The mayor stressed that online respiratory therapies for people in recovery after having Covid-19, will consist of 10 free sessions, which will be given by specialists, since many people who “come out of the disease do not have to cover recovery therapy pulmonary”.

The objective of these sessions is to improve respiratory function in people who have had lung conditions, and who are very important to remove that feeling of difficulty breathing, and if they call the XochiWhats line (55 49 59 94 09), they will be sent materials to continue recovery exercises.

He commented that, in response to the call of the Head of Government, Claudia Sheinbaum, he will donate a month’s salary in support of the health sector and attention to the pandemic, and another 160 public officials of the mayor’s office decided to donate a fortnight for the same purpose.

“We have to be united and for us it is essential to provide support to those who need it, so I decided to make that donation and later other colleagues joined in solidarity so that care can be given to Covid patients,” he said.
