Tennis player Petra Kvitová was glad that her family saw her successful performance in the quarterfinals of the tournament in Ostrava.
Kvitová defeated the Swiss Jil Teichmann twice 6: 4, when she dominated in the second half of both sets. Thanks to that, after a quarter of a year, she reached the semifinals of the WTA tournament again.
The two-time Wimbledon champion was not very successful in the summer. She lost in the first round in Wimbledon and in Prague, only in the second round at the Olympic Games. With the exception of the quarterfinals in Cincinnati, which she had to give up due to stomach problems, she did not see a significant result.
She has already been in the last four in Ostrava. “Being in the semifinals is great, especially to introduce myself to the home crowd is nice. I have a family, I have brothers here. It’s a diversification I don’t have for a whole year. that I gave the performance I gave today and that they could see it, “she told reporters.
She appreciated how she averted her breaks at the beginning of the match. “Serving helped me. That was the key to winning today. She also served well. She varies service well, as the left hander has a different rotation. I had to get used to it,” Kvitová described the important moments of the match.
She gradually got used to her opponent’s style. She fought Teichmann only for the second time, while she had a previous duel in Dubai. “He plays a little differently. The beginning was probably not entirely ideal, but the longer I played, the better I played. I knew the exchanges would be long. I think I did well in the final,” the tournament duo rejoiced.
At the beginning of the second set, she did not follow the famous performance from the end of the first set for a while and lost service. “As I was moving towards the end of the first set, I drove it emotionally, it was mentally exhausting. Then it fell a little off. Next time I have to squeeze more at the beginning of the set after that break,” she recalled.
It helped that she quickly took the break back. “It was a great gamma. I put great returns, I put it under pressure and I got caught. In fact, it helped me,” she described the beginning of the turn in the second set.
He can’t imagine gathering strength for a tournament of this level if he wasn’t home. “It’s a special tournament. I came here tired and I’m still exhausted. But the fans support me, I’m grateful for that,” she praised herself.
