Kusan: City of Wolves – The Spiritual Successor to Hotline Miami with Cyberpunk Twist

Hotline Miami remains one of the best PC games ever. Vivid, revealing, surreal and stylish, its combination of neon violence and brain-crushing dance music creates a dizzying aesthetic unlike any other top-down game. Hotline Miami 2 was a worthy sequel, but with the retro renaissance of the 90s and the emergence of indie first-person shooter hits like Dusk, Turbo Overkill and Cultic, the shooter genre became associated with variations on the themes of Doom, Quake and Half-Life. Hotline Miami 3 may never come out, but this indie game could very well be considered its spiritual successor. Kusan: City of Wolves essentially looks and feels like a new game in the Hotline Miami universe. And those interested can request access to the test version.

Fast, bloody and incredibly chic action – you only need to take a quick look at Kusan: City of Wolves to see its similarities to the hit of the indie scene. It’s Hotline Miami with a playful, almost anime-like twist, where as an anthropomorphic Doberman wearing sunglasses and smoking a cigarette, you’ll protect a young woman who has the power to destroy the eponymous Kusan.

The story takes place in a fictional futuristic vision of Korea. Players must move quickly, aim accurately, and spill rivers of blood to keep their team alive. Of course, the game has a lot of weapons, but the arsenal also includes swords, knives and a robotic arm, all of which can be upgraded as you progress.

Created by one developer CIRCLEfromDOT, the second public testing of Kusan City of Wolves starts today – January 12th, and will last until Friday, January 26th. It allows you to go through the entire first chapter of five levels.

If you’re missing Hotline Miami and want more stylish top-down brutal action with a cyberpunk twist, you can request access Kusan now.
